WowWee AppGear combines augmented reality with real toys

I’m sure that most of you coolest-gadgets readers are familiar with WowWee, as they make some really cool robot toys. Last year at CES, they unveiled the Cinemin Slice, and CES 2012 will be the year of the AppGear. I have a video of it after the jump, and it apparently uses augmented reality apps for both iOS and Android, combined with physical toys. I’m not certain how it all works, but it could be the next generation of gaming. After all, who doesn’t want to see their toys come to life? It looks like the Alien Jailbreak works by placing the alien jail toy in front of you and then shooting the aliens with an iOS or Android augmented reality application of some type. There will be six of these games/apps available, which will be available sometime in early 2012. They will cost about $ 9.99 and $ 19.99, and include the aforementioned Alien Jailbreak, Zombie Burbs, and Elite Commander. I’m sure that more games will come, especially with Star Wars fra...

Origo, the toy 3D printer that makes more toys

In the future, every household will have a 3D printer like they have a 2D printer. You will note that I didn’t put a year on this, because I’m not stupid. Every time I read a sentence that starts with “by the year” it hardly ever comes true. However, this Origo 3D printer could bring 3D printers into households sooner than later. The Origo is currently a concept from designers Artur Tchoukanov and Joris Peels, and it can turn any drawing into a 3D object. I have no idea how it can translate a 2D drawing into a 3D figure, but here is the real cool feature of the Origo. After a child has created his or her toy, he or she can recycle the material and make another toy. This 3D printer will be very simple to use as the Nintendo Wii or the Xbox 360. While we are on the subject of the Xbox 360, you should know that this thing is “as big as three Xbox 360’s and as expensive as three Xbox 360’s”. It is an odd size and price comparison, but I ...

ALL VIDEO ADVERTS COPYRIGHT IS OWNED BY ITS RESPECTIVE COPYRIGHT HOLDER - THIS IS NOT TECHTV101's Own Material - We love the 80s here at techtv101 and it did bring some of the coolest toys and gadgets EVER, so here we bring you 5 adverts for some of the things that should bring the memories flooding back. First up is the A-Team Figures Produced by Galoob in 1983 the set of 6″ figures represented the full A-Team BA Baracus, Face, Murdock and Hannibal. The figures come with 4 weapons, 2 utility belts, 1 backpack and Mr. T′s toolbox containing 6 small tools. Then We have the Millenium Falcon from Star wars If there was a flagship of the Kenner Star Wars fleet, the Millennium Falcon was unquestionably it. It was one of the first toys released in 1979 and it survived as part of the line through Return of the Jedi, released four years later. That longevity meant that the toy experienced the highs and lows of Kenner's association with Star Wars. In late '77, the...

  • Rainbow in my Room Projector

    Rainbow in my Room Projector

Last Christmas, I wrote about the solar-powered rainbow machine, a device that can create an artificial rainbow. For those that want this ersatz rainbow technology on the inside, you might want to look into this Rainbow in my Room Projector. I would imagine that this about as close as getting a rainbow indoors as you can without the power of God. Sure, it is not as impressive as an honest to goodness gigantic rainbow that stretches across the sky, and I’m sure the solar-powered one probably looks more impressive. This Rainbow in my Room is more of a glorified night light, but this might be what your kids want. Chances are, any room with the Rainbow in my Room Projector in it probably needs a unicorn or My Little Ponies, like my daughter’s room. That set up looks like it would require a lot of space, and probably requires a pot of gold at the end of it. This toy also comes with a window prism disk for making some smaller rainbows when the sun is present. If you want to se...
